About KOQX !
KOQX traces its roots back to the summer of 2001 when The Landlord began a weekly four hour show brodcast Sunday nights on Oakland California's only radio station, KOOX 93.7 FM. "Sunday Night Houserockin' R&B with The Landlord" soon became one of the most popular non-commercial shows in the bay area radio market. When listeners started swarming the station with emails and calls and local blues musicians like Rene Solis and Paul Wood started to ask about having their work featured on "The Landlord Show", it became apparent that there was a market for this music that would not fit into just a couple of hours a week on a low power urban radio staion.
KOQX was launched a year later with one server on a T-1 and the music from a few CDs, never waivering from the "Houserockin R&B" format that The Landlord, an accomplished electric blues guitarist in his own right, found so well liked on his old Sunday Night Houserockin R&B show. Word of the new blues station quickly spread andafter just a few days the server couldn't keep up with the demand.
Today, KOQX operates multiple servers in two world class datacenters and has over 85,000 tune ins per month from over 150 countries. The Landlord still personally chooses all the music and KOQX is still known for his unique "Houserockin' R&B" sound anywhere that blues listeners have access to the internet, just as it was more than a decade ago, Sunday nights on a small Oakland radio station.
